Things to Do in Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Tamarindo is not only famous for surfing. There are plenty of other activities in Tamarindo that will submerge you in the local culture and diverse natural surroundings of the town. Tamarindo beach is home to many restaurants that offer a wide variety of local tradition and international influence. Shopping for local fashion, souvenirs, and handicraft is a must along the main part of town, and the Playa Tamarindo nightlife offers affordable drinks with a relaxed vibe. Most of the establishments in town offer views of the ocean, which display breathtaking sights, especially during our world renowned sunsets.

Our hotel owners have been Tamarindo locals for over 15 years. Here is a list of our most popular tours:

Rincon de la Vieja National Park
This Costa Rica volcano tour is a full day adventure that you just can’t miss. Spend the day at Hacienda Guachipelin (1.5 hour travel time), located in the Rincon de la Vieja National Park. Enjoy a zipline tour, horseback riding, hot springs, waterfalls and river tubing. Lunch and transportation are included. This is a full day tour, departing at 7am and returning 6-7pm.
Price - $140/person

Las Baulas National Marine Park Estuary Tour
This is the best way to witness the local wildlife. Our hotel is located at the entrance of the Las Baulas Marine Park. We highly recommend going on a tour with Don Enrique. This tour is best at high tide, when the estuary floods and boats can access the deep recesses of this extensive mangrove network. View monkeys, crocodiles, plenty of tropical birds, giant crabs, and more. A sunset tour in the estuary is like being on another planet. Definitely do this one. Read all about the Las Baulas National Marine Park HERE.
Price - $30/person

Tamarindo Bay Catamaran Sunset Tour
At Pueblo Dorado, we think the best way to see the coast and enjoy the famous Tamarindo sunset is aboard a 65ft catamaran. Reserve your tour with the Marlin del Rey and the Blue Dolphin, the two best catamaran tours in Tamarindo. These tours depart Playa Tamarindo daily at 1pm and return just after sunset. Enjoy an open bar, fruit and snacks. The catamaran stops at Playa Huevos or Playa Minas and includes kayaks and snorkeling gear.
Price - $85/person

Tamarindo Zipline Canopy Tour
Ziplining in Costa Rica is something you have to do at least once. Zip through the jungle canopy, high above the ground amidst dense flora and fauna as you spot Costa Rica wildlife. Zip line tours are provided by Canopy Pinilla and Pura Aventura. These tours last about 2 hours and include hotel pick up and drop off.
Price - $40-50/person

Other Tamarindo activities include ATV tours, horseback riding, bird watching, sport fishing, turtle nesting tours, mountain bike tours, yoga, in room massages, scuba diving, and more. With help from our knowledgeable staff, you will definitely find ways to thoroughly enjoy your vacation in Tamarindo. Of course, you can always just chill out by the pool or on one of our beautiful beaches and do absolutely nothing. It’s your vacation!
